Grapefruit and Egg 3 Day Diet Plan

The Grapefruit and Egg diet is a hybrid for two popular diets i.e. grapefruit diet and egg diet. Though both these diets produced good results, the hybrid of these is no less better.

This diets this diet also promises to help you lose weight fast, but there is a catch to this. Just like any other fad you lose weight pretty quick, because of extreme calorie restriction and carbohydrate depletion. What happens is that these diets are so strict, that sooner of later you are going to get back to eating as usual and you will gain back those pounds pretty fast.

Still, in contrary to advises against fad diets for shorter periods we have found that they are not harmful to your body. In fact they provide your body and its organs a well deserved rest and detox. In addition to that you lose excess water weight which is good feeling to have.

The Origins

The Grapefruit Diet, also known as the “Hollywood Eighteen Day Diet,” originated in the 1920s and was designed to provide no more than 600 calories per day. One of the diet’s earliest devotees was the novelist Fannie Hurst, who, in 1935, wrote “No Food with My Meals,” a memoir about her struggles with weight loss. The Egg Diet, on the other hand, originates several decades later as an offshoot of the Atkins Diet, which was first introduced in 1972. (Livestrong)

How it Works

In this diet, you are restricted to have no more than 600-800 calories in a day, with very little to no carbohydrate intake (which helps in losing the water weight fast).

As contrary to popular beliefs that low calorie diets are harmful to your body, but practically speaking they do not pose too much of a danger to your health. As long as you keep yourself well hydrated and balance your vitamins and minerals.

Grapefruit in itself is a superfood which has many health benefits and it is full of vitamin C, which gives your body a complete detox. Eggs are high in protein and fats which balances your body requirement.

Though you eat other food too like chicken and low carb vegetables and fruits but they are restricted to a small portion and once a day.

In 2008, the American Dietary Association acknowledged that low carbohydrate diets are effective in weight loss, especially to those with high blood sugar levels. But maintaining a low carb diet is difficult, and the results will depend on how long you can sustain low carbohydrate diet.

Here’s the 3 day diet plan:

This menu is monotone but the reward is great if you stick to it.

Breakfast:

  • 1 Slice of Wheat Toast
  • 1 Cup of Black Coffee
  • 1 Half of Grapefruit
  • 1 Egg

Lunch:

  • 1 cup of Black Coffee
  • 1 Half of Grapefruit
  • Mixed Greens Salad
  • 1 Tablespoon extra-virgin Olive Oil as dressing

Dinner:

  • 1 Half of Grapefruit
  • 4 Ounces of any lean meat preferably chicken or fish, boiled, baked or sautéed in extra-virgin olive oil or coconut oil.
  • Mixed Greens Salad one bowl
  • Eat all the steamed vegetables you desire.

Conclusion

This diet will definitely help you lose pounds of weight, and you may continue this diet safely for 12 days. Please contact your doctor before you try this diet, as grapefruit might interfere with some medications. It is not advisable to those with kidney problems.
